STAY AWAY

The desert curls itself up

flat at night

an uncaring carnage of sand

and spiders

day’s heat retreats into

silence, leaving a numbing damp cold

cactus stand guard over

barren and nothing

snakes slither into holes

and under useless rocks

scavenger animals prowl

without much to show

it’s lifeless and without soul

night and day are equal

with nothing to offer
