BURIED

under dunes ancient paths pressed by sand rocks and skeletons lying beside, evidence covered and then recovered, time preserved, desperate voices absorbed, disorder with perfection, void of seasons absent of sounds protected within ancient layers

A TOUCH OF MEMORY

tall pines line the side of the road to the shoreline where rocks lay scattered, black and gray, smooth from millennial washing   it’s a place held tight to the chest, spoken of only in memory when skies are alive with color and few words are spoken   but night remembers

OTHER SIDE

early stillness city awakening neon’s blink off apartment lights on a few cars and a cat   warm street air pigeons pass overhead red brick walls slate steps alley doors aroma of bacon and coffee stagnate puddles grease and diesel fumes   sun rising over rivers horizon stepping slowly from earths other side

EAST STREET

unashamed smoky alleys, rock walls overlook back porch squatters   pigeons wary of a changing breeze and strangers without wings garble a frightened message taking flight   barred windows, forgotten garbage, and bells ringing, signal the top of the hour;   for some the end, others, late for dinner

STAY AWAY

The desert curls itself up flat at night   an uncaring landscape off sand and spiders   day’s heat retreats into silence, leaving behind a numbing cold   cacti stand guard over nothing   snakes slither into holes under useless rocks   scavenger animals prowl without much to show   the terrain is life without … More STAY AWAY

BETWEEN STONEWALLS

The structure of the proof is the land   observant eyes and obedient ears stand fast within the silence   the strength of rocks the support of roots a crowded rain   newness is grafted in   at sunset morning glories dip their heads   the moon is a celestial flower   what’s important is … More BETWEEN STONEWALLS

RESTLESS STRENGTH

Needles of streams form rivers; moving water the substance of spare parts a sliding territory under moon and sun.   It’s design is a creative covering of millennial cooperation with pathways to the ocean; a friendship of ancient land and rock.   In season it can become a crown of betrayal connecting briefly with the … More RESTLESS STRENGTH
