WAITING

Walking the dream on legs without stars   a release drives within like seasons changing from equatorial spinning   pushing us against celestial misgivings of unanswered prayers   where whispers and voices strain through burlap separating the living from storytellers   as miracles wait to be called out from hiding.

NOT FAR FROM HERE

The sidewalk is a stream, a playground, an escape without arrows to point the way out. Fallen stars, the scattering of dreamers believing in second chances, light the city at night. Children remain close by, guarded by the fences of stern warnings.  Their visions asleep as they accept the ideas of less.  Surrounding aromas … More NOT FAR FROM HERE

KINGDOM OF STARS

Cloudless night sleep forsaken for the lack of dreams   walking softly outside under a carpet of stars shadows from branches are cast onto a narrow dirt path   light breezes disturb wax twisted leaves, a fright to imagine if it were ghosts moving about   there is a sense of being unearthed and homeless … More KINGDOM OF STARS

GREATNESS

A ritual with friends, an open meadow under a night sky, lying back tracing stars as clouds divide and uncounted winds slip away we inherit the oblivion, nourishing curiosity as the orbits of eyes absorb the greatness.   Slowly, with hesitation, we leave a memory of footprints and the dampness of our words, until once … More GREATNESS

UNDERNEATH

Fall back under early stars. The sea moves reflective waves, pulsing onto sand, building like engines of thunderous clouds. Streams of people merge into temporary spaces; strangers on corners, a brief land of shoulders staring straight ahead.  A steady rain clears the dust.  Afternoon finds a place before dusk.  Footsteps continue.  Everyone owns a portion … More UNDERNEATH

DANCING SHADOWS

A sandy path boarded by rose bushes. A curved half black dome above, painted with stars from distant galaxies. Up ahead, flames from a bonfire beckon us closer. The heat presses us when we are several feet from its heart.  Blankets with lovers and friends gather. Sparks explode into cool air, fighting to remain alive … More DANCING SHADOWS

PASSING THROUGH

Into the desert. Road signs peppered like a wasteland war. The air is solid with evenings coolness stepping in. Jack rabbits feet sing out an escape, hoping for luck. A lunar terrain, scattered with hungry plants and starving weeds.   The sun fell into a distant comfortable corner. Stars hold their distance, offering an occasional … More PASSING THROUGH

ESCAPE

She was leaving. Standing nervous at the bus station. A black misty night blocked out stars and formed halos around street lights. An announcement beckoned her ticket to the waiting bus. She straightened up, startled, pony tail swaying and saddle shoes moving in the direction of her escape. Travelers boarded in silence and then awkwardly … More ESCAPE

FACE OF NIGHT

Night, the mystery, the closed eyes of day where shadows appear larger and forbidding.  Lonely dogs send howls of sadness into cold air.  Cats prowl on silver paws. Street lights make an attempt to provide safety.  Corner clubs become revived with music. There is a chorus of moving tires and workers on buses.  Voices round … More FACE OF NIGHT

OVER THE WATER

A dusky silk rain dampened warm humid air as a pale green yellow sky yielded to a pressing night   a choir nearby rises through an open window singing under the wings of angels   Church candles weep during long prayers the flickering light slips over calm waters where a hypnotic intermittent sound of frogs … More OVER THE WATER
