MORNING,

walks the perimeter of fire, beginning    the journey or voyage as wide prairie thoughts walk in without obstruction, self inventing today‚Äôs challenge, stirring within a ballad of an open field as you set out until the habit of a faithful evening of stars and moon encourage our rest

BREATHING OUT

the house was a fire of voices   a child on the front porch sang a song about water and boats   floor boards language inner travel from room to room   burnt evening skies brushed the house with setting shadows as night breathes out a deep sigh of quiet

WATERS SPEAKING BLUE

sadness   the uncontrolled wind the draining of a sink silent thoughts positioned from those close   campfires without smoke smoldering reigniting the lips water over the eyes a baptism with ashes   as the heart asks for one more beat and the feet for another step

RECOVERY 101

escaping the fire the inside burn of scars   sharp word blades wounding bloodletting   as courage lines up within marching against rising tides and the instruments we fight   a lesson of learn and recover watered over smoldering without damage

ETERNITY

from the mouths of angels voices appeared like bonfires burning from their faces as the last clouds of day melted away   their message rose from the edge like a half note of wind   it was breath to breath a full measure without error that eternity holds the dreams of the dead

STANDING BENEATH

piano playing rain lightening flames in a sky burning with storms   drums of thunder the slam of gods wearing armor   heaven backs up from swift winds claiming the air   as rain beats dry dirt with a wet hand

RUSTY SKELETON

voices descend through the fire escape   men wearing sleeveless t-shirts drink and smoke   women whisper   children stare to the sky where clouds shadow the alley   a cat sleeps resembling driftwood   pigeons gaze down from the rooftop   Latin music rich with aroma drifts from a window

WASHED OUT

Broken desires are deserts without souls thirsting for water breathing hot air spread across cruel sands   they are beyond faith and prayers   like promises unfulfilled slipping through broken fences and over empty lots   each desire is a passion of fire   the ashes become answers forming a new story

EYES OPEN

A high heat pushed roadway lines sideways crowds trample the streets pulled toward destinations in a sea of shoulders   fire escapes spread waffle slanted shadows onto faded bricks   a radio pushes static into an alley   garbage cans release the aroma of yesterday   young men rolled up sleeves bright buckles black pocket … More EYES OPEN
