SECOND CHANCES

The pull of gravity provides a slow blink of reality and caution.   Unfamiliar dreams of eyes with stars, kings of stone, and watch towers under gray slate skies create the beginning of desperate ambitions.   Repentant knees drop with emotion, praying for pockets of hope and second chances.

DOORS

Fair winds, the pause of between, ruffle the edges of canvas awnings. The sound of coarse linen being formed into small waves, resemble incoming tides onto shorelines celebrating morning. The day tumbles within minutes, creating hours of hope with the sense something good will happen. The manicured thoughts we cultivate, wait patiently for the map … More DOORS

NIGHT DRIVE

Labored wipers edge the smooth curved surface with vengeance as the final reach snaps a forceful wet slapping, shoving aside the enemy of night……water. Headlights course heavily through the drops as the beams stretch toward the next curve like a child reaching for candy.   Creatures of night absorb the car, hovering over as if … More NIGHT DRIVE

DREAMS ALIVE

Shadowed images crowd deep into him releasing the engine of his drive; rough breathing scrambles onto walls of dreams where innocence covers sin   His jazz is wind. A coursing of multiple gusts turns heads while capturing idle thoughts.   He stirs under covers of restless sleep. Nightmares call him by name. A cutting moon … More DREAMS ALIVE

WIDE BROWN RIVER

Over hanging branches with fingers of moss drool onto a brown fat lazy river.   Mud soft edges sit rich with ooze, tempting to touch, warm with patience.   A yellow roaring sun growls hungrily pressing green stems to wilt in prayer.   The voice of flow rumbles deep, muscled strong while passing through.   … More WIDE BROWN RIVER

HEAVY STEPS

He walked with a heavy step like a giant over autumn leaves. His eyes were hard on the path, avoiding dead ends and blind corners. He murmurs prophecies, steamed to the surface from past vowels wasted on youth. His strength is formed strongly in posture and self confidence; pillars stretching over years. He enjoys gray … More HEAVY STEPS

A QUIET ROOM

Under a moon of freezing light night touches the threads of sleep.   Curtains lay pulled back, bunched in the middle by a cloth cord.   Flowered wallpaper dreams of spring. The fireplace light wanes into gray corners.   Day is a bucket of empty, yielding to frost and mice seeking shelter.   Soft words … More A QUIET ROOM

ROTTEN APPLE

Raging winds ran the streets like wolves in search of unsuspecting prey. Hats took flight. Garbage can lids spiraled like runaway Olympic discus’. Newspapers trashed the sky with yesterdays sales and obituaries. Hats tumbled like children on the last day of school. Down 7th avenue a gust of random winds created the sound of trains … More ROTTEN APPLE

BLACK CAT

Early, when light struggles for a place, a black cat steps with velvet feet around last evening’s rains walking the corners like winds touching curtain ends.   Shutters stare onto the dampened alley as sun lines spread over cobblestones rich with history.   Palm trees breathe into morning. The fronds work the air like a … More BLACK CAT

BETWEEN CLOUDS

Eyes of clouds watched with swollen curves as the earth passed below, its streets busy and sidewalks solid paths of souls colliding and then draining off, opening doors, filing in and out with random irregularity.   The day is a flash of courage on a millennial stage, as the sands of people speak of how … More BETWEEN CLOUDS
